PRESS RELEASE

Launch of the Statistics Pocket Book

15 August 2003

The European Central Bank (ECB) is launching its Statistics Pocket Book today.

The Statistics Pocket Book will be published every month. It presents a wide range of recent and historical economic statistics in an easy-to-handle format. The main focus of the data is on the euro area as a whole, but the Statistics Pocket Book also contains comparisons between the euro area, the United States and Japan, as well as selected macroeconomic indicators for the Member States of the European Union.

As a general rule, the cut-off date for the statistics included in this Pocket Book is the day preceding the first meeting in the month of the Governing Council of the ECB. It is then published one week later, on the same day as the ECB's Monthly Bulletin. The data contained in these two publications are fully consistent.

The Statistics Pocket Book is available on the ECB's website at http://www.ecb.europa.eu (in pdf format in the "Periodical publications" section and as CSV files in the "Statistics" section). Hard copies of the Statistics Pocket Book can be ordered by writing to the ECB's Press and Information Division – see contact details below.
